  1. As an newbie to ice cream making, this was thorough and super helpful! Thanks for taking the time to share all of this information. How do you add your mix-ins? Is this ice cream soft enough in the container to do it there?

    1. You're welcome! If I'm adding mix-ins, I put the ice cream in a mixing bowl and mix it together in there, and then transfer the mixed ice cream to the freezer container. I do it this way because I find it easier to clean this particular machine if it's just ice cream left in there to clean out. When I had my Cuisinart ice cream maker and could wash the bowl in the sink, I added the mix-ins at the end of churning the ice cream.

    1. Hi, yes if you use the search function above, I have a few ice cream recipes that use only simple ingredients (whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla). Here is the most basic one:

  3. Bought it in 2005, sold it less than 3 years later and don't regret it. Reason#1: cleaning that bowl is a real pain because you need to put some water in it a few times to really get it clean as you do not want to leave soap residue in it by just wiping it dry.
2: It doesn't make hard ice cream, just soft serve and you still need to freeze it for a few hours.
Conclusion: For me it is not worth the effort to clean it and then freeze the ice cream. As a matter of fact, I bought a cheap $89 Cuisinart ICE30BCP1 that makes the same soft ice cream that I scoop out and freeze for a few hours. By the way the bowl is removable and very easy to clean. Yes, I have to pre-freeze the bowl for 24 hours before I can make ice cream and then scoop out the just made ice cream and freeze it for a few hours but it makes the same great ice cream for a fraction of the price! $800 versus $89
