  1. As an newbie to ice cream making, this was thorough and super helpful! Thanks for taking the time to share all of this information. How do you add your mix-ins? Is this ice cream soft enough in the container to do it there?

    1. You're welcome! If I'm adding mix-ins, I put the ice cream in a mixing bowl and mix it together in there, and then transfer the mixed ice cream to the freezer container. I do it this way because I find it easier to clean this particular machine if it's just ice cream left in there to clean out. When I had my Cuisinart ice cream maker and could wash the bowl in the sink, I added the mix-ins at the end of churning the ice cream.

    1. Hi, yes if you use the search function above, I have a few ice cream recipes that use only simple ingredients (whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla). Here is the most basic one:

  3. Bought it in 2005, sold it less than 3 years later and don't regret it. Reason#1: cleaning that bowl is a real pain because you need to put some water in it a few times to really get it clean as you do not want to leave soap residue in it by just wiping it dry.
2: It doesn't make hard ice cream, just soft serve and you still need to freeze it for a few hours.
Conclusion: For me it is not worth the effort to clean it and then freeze the ice cream. As a matter of fact, I bought a cheap $89 Cuisinart ICE30BCP1 that makes the same soft ice cream that I scoop out and freeze for a few hours. By the way the bowl is removable and very easy to clean. Yes, I have to pre-freeze the bowl for 24 hours before I can make ice cream and then scoop out the just made ice cream and freeze it for a few hours but it makes the same great ice cream for a fraction of the price! $800 versus $89

  4. After making a custard style ice cream can I toss it into the machine, hot or warm? Will the quality significantly decrease? Thank you!

    1. Hi, I have only made a custard base once, but you definitely do not want to use it while hot or warm. It needs to be refrigerated for several hours or overnight and put into the ice cream machine once it is cold.

    2. It is best to let the ice team base sit and refrigerate it for several hours or overnight as it allows the flavors to develop and mix together. It also will help when freezing the ice cream by not creating large ice crystals. The smaller the crystals the creamier the ice cream will feel on your palate.

  5. We have owned the 4080 for at least 12 years or so... it has held up beautifully. I would highly recommend this machine. I know some look at the fact that there is not a removable bowl as a downside, but in actuality it makes it more efficient. Plus, if you use a silicone spatula to remove all of the previous batch from the bowl at the end (just ket it warm a little bit to allow the stainless bowl to be above freezing). Then you can just add your next batch. (-Assuming no allergy issues, of course)

    1. I agree, I was hesitant to buy this because of the bowl but I actually find this bowl much easier to clean than the removable ones I used to have.
